What is Agricultural Science?

The Agricultural Science major provides students the opportunity to develop a general agriculture degree program with a minor in one of the College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (CASNR) academic units or complete a minor offered by the College of Communication and Information. An Agricultural Science major may also choose to follow one of two concentrations with CASNR: Agricultural Education or Agricultural Extension Education.

Agricultural Science can be the perfect major for you if you are undecided which area of agriculture and natural resources you would like to study and just want to explore the field. Or, you may be interested in pursuing a general, broad-based science degree specialiazing in agriculture. Maybe your're interested in Agricultural Education (leading to a teacher certification) or Agricultural Extension Education (leading to an Extension career), the two concentrations in the Agricultural Science major. You may want to work in agricultural media and communications, and so will need a minor in communications. Or, you may want to develop an individualized study program. Students who wish to develop an individualized plan of study will work in consultation with an academic advisor. The department head and dean's office must approve individualized plans.
