Courses in economic entomology, diseases and insect of ornamental plants, forest
protection, plant pathology, and veterinary entomology are available to undergraduate
students. No undergraduate degree exists in the Department of Entomology and Plant
Pathology, but a program leading to the Master of Science degree with a major
in entomology and plant pathology and a Ph.D. degree in Plants, Soils and Insects
with concentrations in entomology, plant pathology, integrated pest management,
and bioactive natural products are available (see Graduate Catalog). Instruction
and training is provided in those disciplines which deal with the natural hazards
that are major causes of losses in agricultural production, namely, insects and
plant diseases. Courses of study in entomology or plant pathology should give
the student an appreciation of insects and microorganisms, their ecology, population
dynamics, potential damage to plants and their products, and various considerations
in control alternatives.
